Yesterday I DJ’ed again at Villa Antonia. By sheer coincidence I had two consecutive weddings at the same venue. I’m sure that’s happened at some point in the past, but not recently. As with last month’s wedding, I was all over the property. First I was set up in the back of the chapel to provide music and microphones for the wedding ceremony, then the guests moved outdoors for cocktails, and music from a second sound system, while I moved my DJ console and sound from the back to the front of the chapel.
I finished flipping the chapel in time to transition from outdoor cocktails on the veranda to dinner indoors in what’s called the cellar, but is anything but dank and dark as one imagines a cellar to be.
Once the guests were seated for dinner I provide my patented hyped-up, energetic introduction for the couple. This time, however, the level of hype increased exponentially after my introduction, for, unbeknownst to the bride or the guests, I had equipped the groom with a microphone of his own, and the couple came into the room to a Jay-Z beat, over which the groom rocked a verse he’d written for the occasion! The place went wild!
After dinner, the guests made their way back to the now-transformed chapel to dance under an array of lighting effects. We had a long block of time allocated for dancing, and not a moment of it was wasted, as people danced from start to end. I even crafted a mashup in the moment based on the bride and groom’s love for Jay-Z and Taylor Swift, which I dubbed “Izz-tant Karma – Jay-Z & Taylor Swift Mashup.” Fun times!
