    Hailey & Nakia’s Wedding 9-28-24

    Not only am I an Austin wedding DJ, I’m a Dripping Springs wedding DJ, too. Case in point, I was at Ma Maison yesterday, a beautiful wedding venue in Dripping Springs, and one at which I often play. The day started with an outdoor ceremony in the grove, followed by cocktails on the trellis, and capped with dinner and dancing in the great hall. The guests yesterday made my job easy. They were a lively, fun bunch.

    Normally, when I introduce the couple into the reception hall I need to get the guests warmed up and ready to make noise for the bride and groom, but this group was deafening from the start. By the time I brought Hailey and Nakia into the room you’d have thought there was a football match taking place in that room for all the screaming and stomping. I love that kind of energy, as it usually manifests later that night on the dance floor.

    That’s exactly what happened last night. When it came time to dance I had the group screaming and bouncing off the walls from start to finish. By the time I closed the night everyone looked exhausted and happy, and the happy couple had nothing but praise for me while we waited for the room to clear so I could start their private last dance.

    The entire event crew was a joy to work with, including Melanie and Aubrey from Something to Celebrate, Dani Quiroz and Brenna, who took photos, and the entire Ma Maison staff. At many venues you have to hunt high and low to find the one on-site representative, but Ma Maison seems always to have a full staff on hand, ready to handle anything and everything that pops up.

    Morgan and Anthony’s Wedding 9-8-24

    The Arlo in Austin, Texas, is a beautiful spot for a wedding. The ballroom is elegant, but understated, and can be transformed with lighting and effects, which is exactly what I did last night. I brought out the full kit– moving head effects, wash lights, uplights, strobes, haze machines, and more, along with a projector to display videos, and the couple’s name, on a large, white wall. The effect was remarkable, and the room went from elegant during dinner to a party vibe once dancing started. I’ve shared some pictures and videos below to give a better sense of what I did.

    Yesterday I DJ’ed a wedding in Austin at the Hudson Bend Ranch. This was my first time playing at the venue, and it was a great first experience. The owner is laid back and easy-going, the load-in is very easy, and the property is pretty. Everything was great, except for one minor thing: I had some unanticipated neighbors just above my DJ booth.

    That’s right, directly overhead was a busy hornet’s nest! I was a little concerned at first, but they kept to themselves, more or less. Every now and then one flew by my face, but for the most part I was able to ignore them, and after it got dark they all went to bed, and I was never stung. Whew!

    The wedding was nice. The ceremony took place elsewhere on the property, so I played cocktail and dinner music, then transitioned into a dance set. Everyone seemed to have a great time, and the bride and groom were full of praise once I was done. These are the songs I played.

    I’m not only an Austin wedding DJ, I’m an Austin wedding anniversary DJ, too! Just last night I DJ’ed a 50th wedding anniversary at the River Place Country Club in Austin. Everything was just right. The guests were happy and friendly, and very appreciative of both my music and the photobooth I brought along. The food was delicious, and once dinner was done and the lights went down (and my lights went up), the party was on!

    I mostly play private parties, and am nearly always a wedding DJ or a corporate party DJ. I also DJ school dances, birthday parties, quinceañeras, and so on, but I rarely play at night clubs or bars. When I was just starting out I played those sorts of venues, but as I gained experience I moved on to more complex and demanding gigs.

    Last night I got step back in time to my bar DJ days and play at Group Therapy, a great restaurant and bar located in Hotel Zaza in downtown Austin. I played as dinner wound down, then continued until 1am for the bar patrons. I’d forgotten how much fun a bar gig can be. Throughout the night patrons and staff made their way to the DJ booth to compliment my choice of music. When I was done, the bartenders were full of praise too, thanking me for not playing the same stuff everyone else plays. Even the manager came out to thank me, and said he’d like to make my DJ sets a regular Friday night fixture at Group Therapy.

    As fun as that might be, I don’t think it will happen. I’m much better suited to the wedding and private party industry. Plus it pays far better! But still, it was a fun change of pace, and I’m glad I made everyone happy through my music.

    St. Dominic Savio High School Prom 4-27-24

    Last night I DJ’ed the prom for St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School, which took place in the Event Barn at Kalahari Resort. I hadn’t played at Kalahari since December, so it was great to be back to a familiar venue.

    The prom was great. The students were all very respectful, and they danced to just about everything. They made some requests, but always politely, and no one made a fuss about needing to hear their song next. I managed to play most of the requests during the course of the evening, and everyone seemed to have a lot of fun. One student told me “you’re a really good DJ.” That made me happy. 🙂

    We had our 360 Photobooth set up, and that was a big hit, too. In all, I’d say this was a total success, and I look forward to the next event for this school.
