Yesterday, I DJ’ed Mindy and Luke’s wedding.
The wedding was held at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center here in Austin, Texas. I’ve DJ’ed here before, and really enjoy this venue. The reception hall is large, with great acoustics, and best of all, it’s air-conditioned. There is a beautiful courtyard just outside the hall, as well as a number of lovely gardens on site. It really is an idyllic wedding spot!
The weather was a potential issue, as a torrential downpour began about 90 minutes before the outdoor ceremony was scheduled to begin. Luckily, nearly an hour of rain, the skies cleared, and by the time the guests arrived it was another sunny Texas summer afternoon.
The party itself was amazing. Just about every one of the 150 or so guests stayed until the very end, which meant I was able to mix things up musically. Most of the vibe was 2000s dance-pop, but I was asked to mix in some Motown and classic rock for the older guest, and everything worked. The dance floor was a wild throng of screaming dancers the entire time. At the end of the night, captured on film below, the bride and groom were spontaneously surfed over the crowd. It was a wild wedding dance party!
